How this calculation works
We annualise regular cash salary, add the annual bonus, deduct eligible retirement contributions and qualifying donations, then apply the selected SARS tax brackets. Age rebates and non-refundable medical scheme credits reduce tax. Employee UIF and actual cash contributions reduce take-home pay.
A worked example
For 2026/27, R30 000 per month, under age 65, no bonus or contributions: annual taxable income is R360 000. Estimated annual PAYE is R56 172. Employee UIF is R177.12 per month, leaving approximately R25 141.88 per month.
Assumptions & limitations
- Full-year South African resident employment at a constant salary. Monthly, weekly and fortnightly outputs are annual averages, including the bonus.
- Your retirement contribution is an employee cash deduction. Employer contributions and cost-to-company packages are not modelled.
- A bonus is assumed paid in one month for UIF. Medical contributions and membership last all 12 months. Additional medical expenses credits, directives, fringe benefits and other income are excluded.
- The retirement deduction uses the selected tax-year cap and 27.5% limit for this salary-only scenario. Payroll donations use the 5% PAYE limit after retirement deductions; the annual tax-return limit differs. Actual cash contributions are deducted even when not fully deductible for PAYE.
